Awanas

Last night was our first night of Awanas class. Last week we had registration, and it was fun to see all of the kids after the summer break. Stephen and I work with the Cubbies, which are the preschool class. They are 3-4 year olds, plus Caleb. We had 8 last night (not counting Caleb.) We have 3 teachers total, plus one teen helper, which is a nice ratio for that age. Caleb almost needs his own person, as he wants to grab the puppets, and remove the flannelgraph figures, and help in other ways.
At the beginning of each week we are going to line up on the "Awana square" which is used for game time. Each class takes one color.
Here the cubbies are lined up on the blue line. One girl was a little late, so I didn't get her in the picture.
We do the pledge to the flag, sing some songs, and then head back to our classroom.
In our room, we have a puppet show, Bible story, work on our Bible verse for the week, and do a craft.
After that is game time and snack time.
One change this year is that the cubbies end at 8:00, while the other classes end at 8:30. The kids can stay until 8:30. (Some of the parents are teachers, or they have other siblings in the older classes.) About 1/2 way through the class, I was looking at the schedule to make sure we were on track. I realized that we had planned everything out for class time, but forgotten about those last 30 minutes! Oops! We just worked on the craft some more and colored. We will have to plan a little better next time.

These pictures are of the Sparks, the K-2nd grade class. It is the largest. They were instructed to line up quietly on the red line. Who is that kid in the middle play fighting with his friend-- IAN. He was a little wild last night, and we had to talk to him afterwards. Hopefully, it was just the excitement of the first week.
The sparks are the largest class. I think they had almost 20 last night. I'm glad that we are teaching the cubbies!

I think coloring, singing songs with motions, and eating goldfish crackers are the best time-fillers for preschoolers. That age kid doesn't mind singing the same songs twice...or three or four times...as long as it's something exciting!

I was reading posts, thinking it had been a very long time since I looked at your blog, but apparently, I already read this one-or at least commented on it.
I was going to say that Ian should not get in a real fight with that kid, as he looks quite a bit taller than Ian!
