Thanksgiving at the Harvey's House

For Thanksgiving we went to the Harvey's house, and enjoyed lots of yummy food. We had duck, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes (really yams), pumpkin (squash) bread, salad, and more.
Thanksgiving is not a holiday that is celebrated here, so the hospital was opened the normal hours. The staff had their usual morning work. After finishing with morning rounds and seeing patients, etc, everyone spent the afternoon eating and relaxing. It was a very enjoyable day.

Isabelle met this friend (Kelly) the first day, and has been happy to spend some time with her. She is the daughter of the surgeon here and lives on the mission compound (3 miles away) so we don't get to see her everyday.

There is an old tree house right in front of our house. Ian and Isabelle have enjoyed it so far, and we hope to fix it up a little bit.

Airport in France and a brief update

Poor Caleb! He was so exhausted during (and after) all of our traveling.
As we approach the end of our first week in Impfondo, we are all beginning to become accustomed to life here.
Everyone is adjusting well. We haven't done much this week except unpack and try to learn how to function in daily life here.
This morning Stephen and I had a chance to visit a leprosy group home- not sure exactly what it is called. Stephen was able to do a quick physical exam on the people who had problems and prescribe some treatment or medicine. Of course, he was supervised by a missionary nurse!
I am beginning to learn how to shop for food and cook here. It is quite a challenge for me. The kids were happy with the "Super Easy Biscuits" we had tonight, and I was happy with the "super easy" part of the recipe.
This weekend will be more of the same, and then Stephen starts to work on Monday.
Keep this hospital and this area in your prayers. Refugees from the fighting in the DRC have been trickling in over the last few weeks.

Bicycles and Bats

Our main mode of transportation here is going to be bicycles. Fortunately, they had some ready for us. The kids have really enjoyed theirs so far!

The Blue House- La Maison Bleue

This is our house in Impfondo. We spent one week in Brazzaville, then came to Impfondo and have been busy getting settled into our house. Everyone is doing well and getting adjusted to life in Africa-- lots of new experiences.
Our house is on the hospital compound. This is the front of the house, which faces away from the hospital. We actually use the back (kitchen) door for coming and going, and we also have one door on the side. All of the doors and windows have security screens on them.
